Mykorrhiza: Northern RememberanceMykorrhiza: Northern rememberance

First things first, fuck you for having such a ridiculously hard name to spell (and google). Fuck, stop making my job harder. Name your band “Cunt” or something. And secondly, whoa! This album is pretty darn good, how have I not heard this? It was released in 2006, for fuck’s sake. Oh, I know why, because you have a retarded name that reminds me of hemorrhoids, that’s why.

The first thing I thought of when listening to “Northern remembrance” was Covenant when they were, you know, still called Covenant. No, it’s not a fucking hidden “Nexus polaris” no one knows about, I was just reminded of it briefly, that’s all, settle the fuck down. This is fast-paced modern death metal, filled with melody and some killer vocals that vary from the aggressive to the melodic, without ever, ever going gay. There are no clean vocals here, just stuff that you can understand.

This is what Dark Tranquility would sound like if they still had balls. That’s pretty much the most accurate description I can give you. It has a little of old DT, with a spice of old Amorphis, Covenant, maybe even a little Dissection, though not as brutal. Why, it must be the perfect band then? Well, I wouldn’t go that far, but it’s really good, I’m telling you!

I was extremely surprised, by listening to this, from the get-go. Some bands sounds exactly like others; other bands, like this one (I refuse to keep re-typing their name), remind you of a bunch of elements from other bands, but have their own sound. And I can’t ask for much more than that. Mykorrhiza (fuck) really do totally walk their own path, even if their influences are obvious. And the song-writing is fucking top-notch; there are multiple types of songs, instead of just beating on the same retarded drum over and over again.

The vocals, as I’ve said, are really good, with multiple layers of badassness, which interlope aggressiveness and melody. I’m not sure who it is that is fucking singing, as besides having a stupid name, the band is incredibly hard in giving out information on the Internet, but it seems to be Anders Strokirk, formerly of Necrophobic. Technically, these fuckers are really good too, particularly the bass player, who throws down some wicked lines. The only thing that isn’t peachy are the lyrics, which are pretty dumb from the parts I managed to catch.

You should listen to this, even if their name reminds you of your medical kit.

The cover: A fiery rendition, with the shadows of winged creatures. Fucking badass, man.

8 incontinence pills out of 10.
